Women and Bone Density

Women and bone density

How much do you think much about bone density and bone health? It’s critical to women’s well-being and longevity.

Starting around 45yrs, women lose ~0.4% of their bone mineral density per year and this increases significantly during menopause — putting you at greater risk for osteoporosis.

It’s estimated that 40% of women will experience an osteoporotic fracture at some point post-menopause, wow! Which can lead to other severe injuries, chronic pain, disability, or even death! As I’m always saying, one of the number one causes of death in the US for people over the age of 65yrs, is injury from falling aka broken bones. It’s not the injury itself that causes death, but the resulting illnesses and/or inability to heal: pneumonia etc.

Yeah. Bone health is a BIG deal for women.

But there’s good news! With the right training and nutrition strategies, this does not need to be YOUR story. With the proper exercise and nutrition:

  • Women in their 20’s and 30’s can build significant bone mass and reduce their risk of developing osteoporosis later in life

  • If a woman does develop osteoporosis — this 2020 systematic review and meta-analysis suggests that with strength training, her osteoporosis can be reduced or even reversed! Rebounding research shows similar results.

  • Rebounding has been found to be maybe the world’s best exercise for stopping osteoporosis in its tracks (Strength training vies for top billing too). By performing balancing strengthening and jumping exercises on a trampoline, people not only strengthen their muscles and bones, thereby stopping or reducing osteoporosis, but improve their balance and mobility reducing the fear and likelihood of falling! *I have more than one client who stopped the progression of osteoporosis by rebounding just 2-3 days a week. No progression in your 70’s is huge news! Bellicon, the world’s leading rebounding company, offers science based info on the incredible benefits rebounding offers.

This means you have a big opportunity to positively impact your health because now you KNOW what to do! And if beginning an exercise program feels daunting on your own, I offer both 1:1 in-person and virtual personal training and nutrition coaching. And two rebounding classes a week - I’m here to support your health!
